Update: FDA releases new minor version of PDF specifications

Update to News from Jan 04, 2012: Meanwhile, FDA has released a new minor version 3.1 of the PDF specification (see original News below). The minor update includes clarification on the acceptable PDF versions: Files having PDF versions 1.4 through 1.7 are acceptable and should be readable with Adobe Acrobat 8.0 without necessity for any additional software or Plug-Ins.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has released an updated version of the "FDA PORTABLE DOCUMENT FORMAT (PDF) SPECIFICATIONS", dated 2011-12-20. Besides some editorial changes, the new version of the PDF specification document includes the following changes: - Include PDF version 1.7 as acceptable in accordance to ICH M2 recommendation on PDF version
- Additional clarifications related to security, usability, and promotional materials;
- Revision of the list of standard fonts
- Addition of PDF optimization
